Carl Vinson aircraft carrier leads strike group on Pacific deployment

ABOARD THE CARRIER CARL VINSON — Two decades passed before he could take the seat reserved for the aircraft handler, but Lt. Cmdr. Reynaldo Stanley couldn’t catch a spare second to sit in it early Thursday.
As the San Diego-based supercarrier Carl Vinson headed toward Hawaii at the start of its latest deployment, its helicopters were circling in the fog. Crews thousands of feet below scrambled to park, fuel and prep the choppers, all following orders barked first by Stanley and then repeated by his senior enlisted sailors.
