Why Russia thinks it should create the largest aircraft carrier in the world?
Recently, the world has been bubbling with geopolitical tensions. Russia being a major super power in the world, they are not exempt from this race to military supremacy. Russia needs to show its presence in various parts of the world as explained by Nikolai Litovkin from RBTH (Russia Beyond The Headlines) in an article published on April 13, 2017 on their website.
Nikolai mentions the new “Shtorm” aircraft carrier, also known as “Project 23E000E” that is scheduled in Russia’s next armament program (2019-2025) – the entry in service of the “Shtorm” would be around 2030 and experts say it is most likely to be based in Severomorsk (a Russian Navy base located about 1’880 km from Moscow)
The new Russia aircraft carrier will be able to carry simultaneously up to 100 fighters and bombers.
